Smash Mouth Project - Sweet Baby
The Academy of Art had a rather active Animation Club chaired by Jules Moreno. The Club was offered a project working with the band Smash Mouth out of San Jose. Very cool project. Smash Mouth had just hit big time with "Walking on the Moon" I was the production manager for about 60 students. The reason the project was completed was because nobody said we couldn't do it. Not a lick of professional experience amongst us and the project was completed in time for the Spring Show.
Our job was to create animated segments of the band and bus driver to use in a tour video for their fan club. A story line was developed while talking with the band. Smash Mouth was quite generous with their time. Showing up for every meeting and allowing us plenty of time for character studies. My job was production manager. I made arrangements for taking the lead artists down for the studies, set up schedules for scenes. I built a load of paperwork and tried to keep on top of the art. The real challenge was keeping the production sequence flowing.
